Chalfont St. Peter v Stoke Green Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 01 Jun 2013 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won By 87 Runs

Match report This week, The Greens paid visit to Chalfont St. Peter as our return to Division 3 has been steady if not spectacular. After the disappointment is not grabbing 25 points last week at Henley, the players were determined to not let the same thing happen again.

Skipper Sukh Dhillon won the toss and elected to bat on a scrumptious day in what could be easily described as a batting paradise.

Chalfont’s opening bowlers started well in putting the ball in the right areas and removing Gully Khan LBW for 2 with Clive Bourne (19) following him to the pavilion after he had been bowled by the opposition skipper with the score on 37-2. With Usama Butt unavailable this week after his stellar 92 last week, in came two of The Green’s newest recruits in Kashif Nizami (75) & Chirag Desai (38). They put on 102 in the next 29 overs as they looked to rebuild the innings and set a foundation for a big total later in the innings. The Greens were nicely placed until Nizami (following his 2nd half century of the season) & Desai fell in the 35th leaving the score on 146-4. In came Hash Hussain (43) & Vishal Arjan (50*) who set about building on the solid start by scoring quickly putting pressure on the fielders, running hard and taking advantage of any bad deliveries. Arjan batted fluently to bring up his first half century of the season in the 49th over as this prompted Dhillon to declare on a big score of 253-6.

The Greens knew on a deck with not much assistance from the wicket or in the air for the seamers, it would be hard work to get 10 wickets. As predictable as Hash Hussain turning up in a tight vest or t-shirt, vice captain Richard Parker (2-73) set the tone with 2 early wickets. A small partnership started to develop when the Chalfont batsmen beginning to find runs easy to come by on a deck which confirmed how flat the wicket was. Skipper Dhillon didn’t hesitate to bring on the latest recruit in Saj Aziz (5-69) who bowled brilliantly in a long and tireless spell taking key wickets are regular intervals. At the other end Hash Hussain (3-10) removed the key wicket of S.Din for 49, including 2 in 2 balls meant it left Chalfont St. Peter reeling on 128-7 off 37 overs. With Chalfont looking for the draw, The Greens were made to work for the last 3 wickets as Aziz removed the Chalfont skipper with only 7 balls to spare and win the game by 87 runs.

A fantastic all round performance by The Greens which leaves us 3rd in the table on 73 points, only 2 behind rivals Slough 2s who they welcome next week in a much anticipated clash at the top.

MoM: Saj Aziz 5-69
