Stoke Green Cricket Club 1st XI v Odiham & Greywell on Sat 23 Jun 2012 at 13.00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 194 runs
Match report
Stoke Green annhialated Odiham & Greywell by 194 runs after bowling them out for a mere 38.
Sukh Dhillon won the toss and made an aggressive move by choosing to bat first on a wet wicket. With the belief that his batsmen can make 200 runs and set themselves up for a 25 point win. SG lost 2 early wickets as Gully Khan (7) and Vishal Arjan (5) fell cheaply. Tim Gillham and Saud Ahmed steadied the ship with a 92-run parternship. Ahmed fell for 33 introducing Farhan Sheikh at the crease. Gillham then fell after reaching his half-century but Sheikh (53) and cameos from captain and vice-captain allowed The Greens to declare at a solid score of 232-6 in 47 overs.
Dhillon's choice of giving his bowlers extra overs went pointless as the visitors were skittled out for just 38! Richard Parker continued his breathtaking form taking 4-12. Vice-captain, who opened alongside Parker, took his first 5-fer for the season. Colt Saqlain Basharat took the other wicket. It was another outstanding bowling performance by The Greens and not all bowlers were even required.
This extends SG's lead even further at the top of the table as they face 2nd place Hurst next week.
Captain Dhillon after the game, "We have been playing some good cricket and the lads are full of confidence at the moment, bearing this in mind I took a risk and decided to bat first on a wet wicket. I knew this would test the lads but had every bit of confidence to get 25 points. As predicted we struggled early on but Tim Gilham batted very well in testing conditions to set up a later order surge by Farhan, Dahron and me. This allowed us to declare and put some real pressure on them early.
Richard and Dahron bowled very well, Dahron bowled the best I’ve seen from him for a few years and it’s good to see him playing somewhere near his best again and above all enjoying it.
The group of lads are really enjoying their cricket right now and the confidence is spreading through the club, it’s good to see both teams top of their tables. It helps to have such a young team and a bunch of guys that all get on well together. I’ve warned the lads against complacency, which I know they will not let creep in as we have a massive game against the team placed 2nd next week.”
