Match report New year, new season, new clubhouse, new players and there was a whole new buzz around Stoke Green on the Saturday morning. After a fantastic opening ceremony, there were players warming up, fielding drills and team talks before the game - And all this was visible in how the game of cricket followed.

Skipper Sukh Dhillon won the toss and elected to field first on a green wicket which looked as if it would offer a bit of bounce too. As Uxbridge opened their innings, they were reduced to 11-3 thanks to 2 outstanding run-outs and tight bowling by openers Irham Mughal and Richard Parker. Now as well as last years strong bowling attack, it appears this year Stoke Green will also be a strong feilding unit. The wicket resulted in slow going for Uxbridge and no one really got stuck in. Raja Ifraz and Saud Ahmed then provided further breakthroughs that had Uxbridge 7 down. Skippy Dhillon and colt Saqlain Basharat then finished off the innings by taking the last 3 wickets between them as Uxbridge were skittled for only 120.

In reply, the home team got off to a poor start as well, as they were 8-2. Vishal Arjan and Farhan Sheikh failed with scores of 0 and 2 respectively. However, Clive Bourne and Saud Ahmed put on a 3rd wicket partnership of 84 to rescue the innings. Bourne was eventually trapped LBW trying to finish off, however Ahmed kept on going to eventually finish the run chase by hitting a 6 and 4 consecutively - he finished on 69*.

So an overall good start to the season as Stoke Green won their first friendly comfortably by 6 wickets.
