Yateley 2 v Stoke Green Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 24 Aug 2019 at 12:30
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
3 matches to go 3 wins needed and this week was away to Yateley - a hot sunny day on a notorious batting track meant win the toss and bat - unfortunately stand in skipper Mark did completely the opposite! Useless tosser!
Cho and Mannan once again opened the bowling and did so very well. Bowling a tight-line they were unlucky, Mannan bowled an amazing spell of 7 overs for only 9 runs but it was too good for the opposition who couldn't even get an edge on the ball. Their captain opened and he was digging in for the long haul. Cho did get the other opener though after a very scratchy innings he got him lbw. Ashish came on at the other end and got more wickets falling. He got 2 clean bowled as their wickets started to fall but the skipper remained. James came on to bowl another good spell that couldn't find the edge. Was this to be the end of bad luck? Well, after 26 overs Mark decided he'd have a go from the same end. The opener clearly didn't like the look of him and charged down the wicket to Ashish and gave Arun the easiest stumping you could ever take. The rest of the batsmen also can't have liked the look of Mark as they were all very keen to get out quickly. In a spell of tossing at its best, Mark took the next 6 wickets. An easy caught and bowled started it then 2 cleaned bowled, an easy catch for James, then another stumping where the guy charged down so far it was nearly a run out! The innings ended with a skier to Arun and Mark ended on 6-18. We had bowled them out for 132
A tea which was much credited to the local Pizza gogo was had and then out to bat we headed
Arun was playing in his last game before moving to the Florida so he lead the batting along with Ashish. Unfortunately neither lasted - Ashish made the bad decision to kick the ball rather than use his bat and he was given out lbw and then shortly after Arun saw his last innings ended with the faintest of edges to the keeper - so faint the keeper didn't think he hit it. But on 8 he ended his last 4s innings. Ravi and Augi were then at the wicket with us teetering on 19-2, but we had no need to worry. Augi was in a spanking mood and Ravi was playing as he has done all year. They put on a fine 90 partnership. Ravi was eventually out on 38 off 43 balls having got the score to 109 and the finish line was in site. Augi went past 50 off only 36 balls. It was left for Pratik to smash 2 lovely 4s for us to win by 7 wickets having chased it in 18.3 overs.
Next week is a big match vs Eversley - we still need results to go in our favour but promotion is still attainable with 2 wins in the last 2 games.
