Stoke Green Cricket Club 4th XI v Reading 4 on Sat 17 Aug 2019 at 12:30
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
This week saw the almighty 4s return to Windsor as our home ground this time to play Reading. After over night rain the pitch was damp and the changing rooms riddled with even more damp and condemned! With the early start it meant a few people were late including our own skipper so Mark went out and showed his tossing capabilities winning the toss and for the first time this league season we inserted the opposition and bowled first.
Eventually the skipper turned up ready for the first ball of the day and the opening bowlers of Cho and Mannan bowled tight and were unlucky - the run rate was very slow and a couple of catches went down behind the stumps. The opening pair put on a decent partnership of 81 but it had taken 22 overs. It was Ashish who got the first wicket with a clean bowled. Then the wickets started tumbling. James started a great spell of bowling and got the other opener in his first over with a skier to Amar who seemed to catch it in his hat! From 89-2 they lost wickets on 91, 96, 96 and 97. Gurpreet did some amazing fielding to get a direct hit run out and produced the biggest smile of the day, Ali Raza got a dodgy LBW and James had an easy caught behind. They were panicking - Ali Raza produced a great throw to get a run out as they went for 2. A small partnership took them over 100 but then James got a caught and bowled - at the second time of asking and nearly took out his knackers on the stumps, this then followed a nice nick to Mark at slip. The final wicket was another to smiler Gurpreet with a nice clean bowled. They were all out 122 having been 81-0. James ended on 4-15 but Gurpreet's run out was the highlight.
Tea was had and out we came for what could have been a tricky target if early wickets had gone but no one had reckoned on the innings we were about to see. Hannan went second ball - this was not the innings to which I refer - but then in came Amar at the heightened number of 3 to join Ashish. Ashish had scored a few and Amar was struggling to make good contact he had faced 18 balls without scoring, then all changed. Amar got his eye in started to strike the ball well. After 54 balls he had hit his first Stoke Green 50. Ashish was out LBW with the score on 101 having hit a nice 34. Taher came out in very relaxed conditions knowing we only needed 22 but was out on 1. This left Arun and Amar to see us through. Amar ended on 61no off 57 ball. We had won off 22 overs
A fine day for the 4s and the Sekhons, a much needed win to get the 4s back on track and stay in touch for promotion. Next week we go to Yateley knowing we need 3 wins in the last 3 matches to stand a chance of going up.
