Stoke Green Cricket Club 4th XI v Kidmore End 3 on Sat 11 May 2019 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 122 runs

Match report In Stoke Green's first year with a 4th team in the league the first game couldn't have gone better. After much work through the winter to get a ground and then to ensure we got the team out - Kidmore End 3s were the first opponents.
With Sefton Park looking better than ever, stand in skipper Mark won the toss and decided to bat. Team captain Taher - unfortunately having to work - was there to see in the first 10 overs and after a rapid second over scoring from Ravi, he then triggered him lbw as umpire - but then Ravi did forget to use his bat right in front of his own stumps. New player Raza then joined new Groundsman Tony to get us going nicely with a 40 partnership. Both however fell in the 10th over as the slow pitch fooled them both into early shots, Tony could have played 3 shots by the time it hit his wicket! At 60-3 we then had the innings' main partnership, Augi and Arun batted very well together and put on 82 until Arun was out on 42 but Augi continued on after a short innings from Pratik - he passed his 50 whilst he and Mark started to accelerate. Augi fell on 67, chipping one up again playing too early - you have to wait at Sefton. Mark took over the big hitting and with Amar over the last 6 overs put on a further 44. To reach a fine total of 258-6. With the last two balls Mark hit 2 sixes to reach 51 not out (off 30 balls).
After a fine tea raced up from our home ground the bowlers went to work. Debutant 4th team player Ved got the wickets falling early including a fine catch by Raza. Latif joined in the fun at the other end and within 12 overs we had them 5 down already, Ved with 3 and Latif with 2. Father and son team Gurpreet and Amar took over and Amar took 2 in 2 balls with some fine leg spin flight but alas the hat-trick was out of reach. Two of Kidmore Ends left handers then put their one decent partnership with a youngster G Batty looking a fine prospect for the future. Mark and Raza then took the ball and it was Raza's tight faster bowling that finally finished Kidmore off. All out for 136. Stoke Green 4s win their first league match by 122 runs.

It was a fine team performance, 4 partnerships of over 40 and wickets spread across 4 of the bowlers.

Next week - away to Sonning.
