Stoke Green Cricket Club 3rd XI v Beaconsfield 3 on Sat 16 Jun 2018 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 117 runs
Match report
Weekend 7 saw the league topping 3s entertain our favourite opposition Beaconsfield 3s. Taimoor was a great tosser winning to bat first. Bizarrely it was Taimoor himself leading the way with the run scoring at the start - we think he must have needed the toilet or something. Two 4s in the first over set the tone. Clive and Idris however did not start so well out for 4 and 0 respectively and at 20-2 we needed a partnership. And Gully and Taimoor provided! 46 together had moved us onto 66 before Taimoor fell 5 short of his half century which meant he could finally go toilet! Gully and Sahib took the challenge on neither using their own bats so technically the runs are James' and Marks respectively. Sahib was on form including a challenge hit 6 that cost a bowler £10 match fees as Sahib smashed him straight. Sahib was out on 37. Out stode the top averaging James, league top ave 181. a wide was bowled and then James was walking back having forgotten to use the bat and out LBW for a golden! Beaconsfield thought they were in, Augi and Gully thought otherwise from 137-5 off 25 we exploded to 233 off 37, a great acceleration! Augi made it to 32 but it was Gully smashing it around and in touching distance of his century. But they watched each other too closely and within 3 balls they were both out Gully had scored an excellent 94. You'd think we had enough but with 3 overs left Mark and Ayaz put on a quick fire 38, Ayaz hitting some lovely touch 4s and Mark after skiing the highest skied shot ever - they ran 2 to mid wicket and gladly still no one made the catch - he hit 2 6s as we set 272.
A lovely Sarah provided tea was had and off we waddled to field.
Jim Slater traditionally does well against us and he set off like a train. Cho slowed the pace with a fine bowled wicket of the other opener. Slater continued his hitting but the wickets went around him. Cho got his second to a deep catch by Maz. But Beaconsfield were trying too hard, a quick attempted single saw Idris get a run out. It was drinks that turned the game - Slater had scored his 50 after Mark put him down in a difficult high chance and Maz off a C&B. Ayaz and James were the ones to break through to the tail though. Ayaz struck straight after drinks to a catch by Clive, and then James got the all important Slater to an LBW where Jim hit the floor and not the ball. The win by this point was becoming inevitable as the run rate grew. James got his second getting the junior slater with some leg side bowling. Our good fielding day continued with Ayaz getting a direct hit from fine leg for a wicket but he himself was unlucky as a skied edge fell between Gully at gully and keeper Timmy - YOURS!. Gully did get a nice easy wicket with a catch to Mark and then it was left for Ayaz and Mark to take the last 2 wickets leading to the win by 117 runs .
Top now by 15 points, next week- away to Chesham 4s
