Stoke Green Cricket Club Lost by 115 runs

Match report Catches win matches, but runs are needed too!

This Saturday We travelled to the SAS institute to face Marlow 3s and on the way the heavens opened and we arrived at a very damp muddy looking pitch. Luckily it cleared up and we still started on time as James won the toss and decided to bowl in the damp conditions with sun due later (this report is sponsored by the MET office).

Things started well, we held two early skied catches and had them 22-2, with Ben and Chohan taking one each. Marlow recovered for a while and until Charlie got 2 wickets in consecutive overs with another skied catch. 3 catches in a row, this was all going too well. Mark took a wicket in his 1st over as some very dark clouds circled the ground, amongst thunder, drizzle and planes doing loop the loops we had Marlow on the ropes at 116-6. But things started to unravel slightly, 5 catches went down as their lower order looked to hit. Numbers 8 and 9 scored 43 and 35 and their 8th wicket partnership put on 50. We were set 201-8 which was about 50 more than they deserved.

After a baguette filled tea our new looking batting line-up took to the middle knowing 5 an over would do it as the clouds cleared and sunshine returned.
They took the old ball and our openers went out with intent of seeing off the bowlers. However - we shut up shop so much the bowlers didn't need to come off. We found ourselves 15-3 off 16 overs. Talha had dragged on, chohan had holed out and then as we could see any league title slipping away we thought we would go for the Fairplay title instead - number steny, james , and imran were all given out lbw - none of which definites. We had fallen to 43-7. They were holding all their catches and still had the same 2 bowlers bowling.
Finally with Mark and the Holdships at the crease a change in bowling saw some runs, but neither Charlie nor Luke could last! so at 53-9 Mark and an injured Ben - with Luke running for him - we at least tried to get 1 batting point. Mark managed to get himself into double figues and we got past 75, but on 34 he holed out too to finish on a mere 86.

Heads were hung all around.
