Match report So near and yet so far!

On a hot sunny day we got to our illustrious home ground to find the boundary was back out where it should be and then even further - biggest little Sefton ever!
The opposition very kindly inserted us to which later his team were sure to roger him for!

Sahib and Tahir took off with their recent form continuing and surprised us all by proving the boundary was longer by running a 2!!!!! And yet this was not the biggest surprise of our innings. The opposition were being very generous by wanting the ball to be on the ground as often as possible and dropped many chances. Tahir was bowled after opening partnership of 49 and then Sahib followed shortly after a fine 35. Down through order everyone was having a go and getting runs - Augi hit 30, Imran hit 22 including a 42 run partnership with James. no one was less than double figures! And then came the shock. Mark came in at 8, as we were on 193-6 there was little pressure. 19 balls later he was celebrating his first ever Stoke Green 50 - having been dropped off the 3rd ball and then punishing the same bowler later for 24 off one over. James made has 50 before missing a straight one and Mark and Steve continued to set 282-7 off 45 overs.

A fine tea was enjoyed by all - except fasting Taher - and we set out to bowl.

Starting with spin it all started slowly but Mark got an early breakthrough, Luke was then unlucky and had a wicket off a no ball and then 2 drops BUT it was 3rd time lucky as Chohan finally took one. He then got a second off a fine delivery well held by skippy. But then we seemed to struggle - wickets were not quickly coming. Their youngster hit a good 63 - although Ben nearly got him with his first ball - another drop though. Chohan got his first 3s league wickets and Augi got the youngster and suddenly it was in reach again. We needed 3 wickets off 8 overs. James managed to get 2 but we had 3 overs to get the last one and were just found wanting.....

14 points, still in touch with the league leaders as its close at the top
