Amersham 4 v Stoke Green Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 30 May 2015 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won By 3 wickets
Match report
Stoke Green arrived at Amersham 4's ground, Little Kingshill CC, to find the gate leading down the farm track driveway locked. After a long wait and a bit of dodgy goings on in a Rape field, one of the oppo with an idea on how to open the lock turned up. After gaining access to the ground it became apparent that we should have brought the mountaineering kit with us. Skippy and VC Simon reached the summit in quick time like the pair of agile mountain goats they are and accessed the pitch, and soon came to the conclusion that it was indeed a cricket pitch. While the oppo where setting up the ground, the Turd 11 got on with some training, which for the oldies involved bending down and putting their socks on and for us younger ones involved a game of hit the stump. Which as it happened became very relevant later in the game when Charlie got 2 good run outs.
Skippy lost the toss, again, and Amersham decided to bat first.
Four days later both teams had clambered to the top of the hill, with the loss of only a couple of colts, 3 Sherpa's and a squadron of pack goats, and we were ready to begin.
Skippy gave the opening overs to seamers Billy and Augi. Both bowled well and were managing to swing the ball and get seam movement off the mountain side. Unfortunately the opening bat had obviously dropped a couple of Divisions to captain the 4th side and so was able to handle it with ease.
After a few overs each skippy made the change and bought on himself and Idris. These two changes had an immediate effect on the game.Charlie was the first to strike, with a direct hit run out of the oppos colt number 2 batsman. Told you lads, training is good for you!! Idris then got in on the act, taking the wicket of both the opening bat and the number 3 with the first deliveries of consecutive overs. Skippy, annoyed that a 19 year old was out performing him soon started to take some wickets, the next 5 in fact. Including a spectacular catch from Billy in the gully area, and good catch from Luke and a one handed wonder catch from little Iffy, who skippy warned, if he ever did again would end up in the Goats torture chamber, ALL PRAISE THE GOAT!!
With the 9th wicket falling to another run out by fielding hero and guru Charlie, the oppo pushed their way to 181 for 9 off 47 overs.
After tea Idris and Iffy took to the crease to open the batting, and for once Iffy was not the smallest person on the field, he had a good 2 or 3 inches on the keeper!!
A good start by Idris, with some very nice boundaries and well supported by Iffy from the other end saw the turds to 33 for none at the 8th over.
Iffy was the first to fall for 3, followed closely by Idris. Simon was out next defending a low ball that went straight through him. Skippy was in next, and after losing a couple of balls was out pulling a ball that kept low for 34. It was down to Augi to put a very valuable 48 runs on the board, supported very well by Charlie, who finish with 18. Vijay Luke and Harry bought the game home for Stoke Green, who scored 182 for 7 off 37.2 overs.
Overall a good game lads. We made it hard for ourselves in the end. They scored far more runs than they deserved, we gave a lot of extras and fielding mistakes cost us runs and wickets. We need to cut the extras and mistakes out!! Very well done to Augi for his batting performance, and to Luke and Charlie for a supreme fielding effort. Also Idris for taking the key wicket, getting us off to a good start with the bat and for a solid fielding performance.
Tough game next week lads, lets learn from our mistakes, and show this league who is the best team around!!
