Kew v Stoke Green Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 16 May 2015 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Lost By 11 Runs
Match report
Stoke Green visited last years Division 1 champions Kew last week, knowing that this would be one of the biggest tests of the season.
Kew won the toss and elected to bat first, Saud Ahmed and Zulfi Butt opened the bowling for Stoke Green, Ahmed in particular bowled extremely well swinging the ball in both directions. Kew opening batsman Shaw tried to take the attack to the bowlers and succeeded in hitting Ahmed for a 6 early on but was dismissed by Butt trying to go for another big hit. Ahmed got the 2nd wicket quickly but the 3rd wicket partnership pushed Kew to 82/2. Saj Aziz got rid of Rajapaksa which lead to a collapse reducing Kew to 123-8. However with some sensible batting by the lower order, Kew reached a competitive 163 all out.
Stoke Greens innings got off to a bad start with Gully Khan getting run out in the first over and things went from bad to worse with Karan Singh and Vish Arjan following Khan soon after leaving Stoke Green 20/3. Nadir Malik joined Hash Hussain at the crease and they both attacked the Kew bowling to push the score to 70/3 quickly. Hussain was dismissed for 29 but this didn’t stop Malik from carrying on the assault, with score on 113/5, Malik was dismissed for 57 of just 48 balls. Stoke green carried on getting closer to to the target but eventually fell 11 runs short.
A close game and a very good effort from Stoke Green to push last years champions but Stoke Green know if they are to survive this year they will need to win these tight games.
