Stoke Green Cricket Club 3rd XI v Bracknell 2 on Sat 05 Jul 2014 at 13:00

Match report
After a yet another Friday night of rain, we arrived at Sefton to find yet another soggy wicket. After losing the toss we were put into bat. The opposition thought their bowling attack would be too much for us, especially on a wet wicket. After a quick brief from skip on the subject of which end of the bat to hold, Idris and Simon strode out to the middle. The opening bowler wasn't up to much and was mostly bowling short and wide, a stark contrast to hi body shape which was tall and lanky. He was easily seen off by the opening pair taking quick runs and hitting a few boundaries. The second bowler, probably the best bowler they had, was slightly better. His deliveries skidded through a bit more, and he had the ability to occasionally swing it both ways. Whether he knew he was doing this is a different matter. The first change came on to replace bowler 1 and got rid of Simon in his second over. This bought in senior assistant to the youth section of the colt membership, Charlie. Charlie played a true openers innings and blocked out a majority of his balls. Idris was out next caught behind to a sneaky away swinger, he batted well for his 21 and had a good first game back for the 'turds'. Skip was in next and feeling confident, starting in his usual fashion of blocking a ball he then continued to hit anything red that moved, making a quick fire 17 before being caught behind by the same sneaky away swinger that got Idris. Harry came in next, and spanked one straight back over the bowler for 4, rand a quick 2 and then was caught. Maz came in next and was unlucky to chop one onto his own stumps. Charlie was out soon after. This bought in Augi and Taher, who absolutely destroyed the bowling attack, Augi the aggressor was hitting balls left, right and centre, even looking to hit one to cow corner and actually hitting it over square leg. Taher on the other hand played a text book innings full of glances and pushes. At the end of out overs we were 173 for 7.
The opposition were happy at tea and confident that their batting would be enough. That was until they met Maz. Bracknell's innings was a tale of woe, in the face of Mazhars near 90 degree swing. Maz went through the opposition top 6 quickly, who found it hard to keep track of where the ball was, and where it was going to be. From the other end Augi bowled well but on an improving pitch a slight lack of discipline we were conceding runs. Sarfraz was bought on but proved to be ineffective this time round with the boundries freely flowing from one end, Skippy bought himself on. After a few looseners he managed to get Bracknell's top scorer out. Maz took the next wicked, and with the run rate declining, the opposition started to take quick and sometimes risky singles.
The greedy batsmen decided to run a two to possibly the strongest arm in the team. Sarfraz 'wanged' it in to skip at the bowlers en, after the ball took off from the pitch skip had to parry it into the air. falling over the wicket to catch the ball again the bails were dislodged and skip had to remove a stump from the ground.....on the third go the batsman was given out.
Maz was starting to get tired so Augi was bought back on but we failed to get the last wicket. it nearly fell when the bat left a ball from the skip which turned in and missed the stumps by not much.
In the end it was a good result against the league leaders, and it being their weekend off next week it gives us a chance to move back to the top.
Special mentions should go to Maz for his 7 wickets, Augi and Taher for saving the innings and to Ashley who made his adult debut
