Stoke Green Cricket Club 3rd XI v Teddington Town 3 on Sat 07 Jun 2014 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won By 59 Runs
Match report
The day started out wet with the risk of a months worth of rain falling in one hour and thunderstorms. A few hours before the game, a delegation of Skippy, Trevor and Harry, rowed out to the middle to inspect the pitch. The pitch was deemed playable as none of us could remember the last time anybody actually pitched a ball. With dry weather moving in behind the rain and the quick drying nature of the pitch though we were ready to start at half one. Teddington won the toss and put us into bat. The opposition took to the field with 9 fielders after losing a player to their seconds and one being delayed by an emergency on the roadside.
Taimoor and Sahib opened up, and as usual Taimoor played his trademark patient, steady and suicide inducing style of innings. Sahib was out quickly and cheaply for 5 in the 3rd over. Simon was in next and then was out again trying to kick more balls to the boundary, after pulling his hamstring the delivery before. In strode skippy full of confidence but lacking any alcoholic incentives. A few shots put him on six before he hit the next ball onto his pads and then the stumps. Harry the bad man Barnett was in next, a few big hits put him onto 10. His grandfather watching from the boundary was impressed at what he saw. When Harry was out caught on the boundary by a brilliant one handed catch, Grandfather Barnett sat back down, popped his headphones in and continued the thrash metal marathon he was enjoying. Taher walked up next and put in a decent cameon with Taimoor finishing on 6, and gets clown of the match for the worst run out in cricket history ever. I cant tell you how bad it was without crying so I wont. Augi was in next and got a quick 5. another cricketer confusing football and cricket. Augi out LBW. Taimoor was out around this time, nobody quite remembers as we were asleep, however with the fall of Taimoor the team perked up with the hope of some shots being hit. Moody was in next and got a quick 7 before being bowled around his legs after falling over. It was down to the last 3, Chairman Clegg walked out with the experience of grizzled war veteran with dementia, after losing Tanni cheaply in came colt Charlie. Between Charlie and Trevor we had a 50 run partnership, which saved us from being out for under 100 and got us up to our final total of 135. Both batsmen played some lovely shots. It came to an end when Trevor was run out falling over his bat after it dug in into the ground and the handle hit him the knackers yard.
With tea looming the skippy decided to call a team talk, he wasn't happy and blamed everybody except Charlie, Trevor and of course himself.
Teddington started their innings after a lovely tea. We took the old ball and started with Skippy and Moody. After a shakey start from skip, he found his line and length. Moody was on the Bakerloo line and should have been on the Piccadilly and was soon taken off and replaced by Chairman Mao, I mean Clegg.
Trevor took the wicket of the dangerous looking opener after he spooned it to Moody at Mid Off. After that the wickets fell regularly Skippy struck next bowling out the No.2. Trevor took the next 2 wickets. With both bowlers bowling tight lines the batsmen were getting frustrated and careless. After Clegg took his 3rd wicket, which was caught by the Octopus Taher, skippy had had enough and took himself and the chairman off. We took the new ball and Tanveer and Augi came on. From the outset the were too good for the remaining batsmen. Augi was genuinely too quick and Tanni was swinging it too much. they both took 3 wickets apiece for not many runs.
After a shakey start we came through in the end. Men of the Match were Trevor Clegg and Charlie Holdship. Well done boys, especially Trev, Charlie, Taimoor, Augie and Tanni.
