Reading 4 v Stoke Green Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 06 Jul 2019 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 14 runs
Match report
This week took the undefeated 4s to Reading 4s and Taher did his usual thing and proved he is still best tosser around and entered us into the joys of batting first - something we have done every match!
We found that Reading had dropped some young bowlers down from the 3s apparently so Allen and Hannan got us going though after a few overs Hannan had one that popped up and was out in the 6th over. This bought Ravi to the crease for what was going to be a long innings. He and Allen put on a decent knock together but Allen eventually was bowled after 12 overs and we were 40-1. Arun scored a quick 21 before being caught well at 3rd man. Ravi was still there. Ali Raza had a short innings. Ravi was still there. Mark also had a short innings. Ravi was still there. Ravi eventually passed 50 whilst putting on an excellent partnership with El Capitan Taher! He and Taher took us from 90-5 to 147-6 before Ravi was caught in the deep after batting for over 2 hours! Taher and Amar kept a few overs ticking over to end the innings on what we saw as a handy 166. Taher on 25no and Amar 10no.
Tea took a while to come as we had to wait for the 1s to have theirs first - how rude - but after some good cooked chicken chips and onion rings we went out to field.
They say catches win matches, luckily for us there are other ways to do it. Gurpreet and Ali Raza bowled well to start and Gurpreet got a nice early wicket Hannan actually caught it. But then as their captain was on his way to a very long innings for 50 we started dropping catches left right and centre but carried on the hard fight. Raheem on his 4th team league bowling debut he took a nice caught and bowled and bowled very well whilst Abdullah toiled away unluckily at the other end. We were keeping them behind the run rate but wickets were not coming. Captain and keeper were having a partnership and there were some strange umpire calls getting us frustrated. Mark was on at one end and then the Return of Ali Raza finally saw their skipper bowled for 50. The run rate needed got higher as we kept the score down. Mark then got the keeper on 35 after he'd had about 5 lives, caught behind by Taher and then with the rate required up to about 10 an over with 6 overs left Amar got a nice clean bowled and Mark got a handy lbw and there was no catching us. Mark got a third with second last ball and they ended a looooooooong 40 overs with a lot of stoppages for glove removal and putting back on with only 152 so we were victorious by 14 runs. Need to tidy up the fielding next week!
But now half way through the season we are undefeated, sitting 3rd in the division - next week - away to Slough 6s
