Stoke Green Cricket Club Won By 40 Runs

Match report After back to back wins, Stoke Green visited Thatcham cricket club on a wet and gloomy day. Surprisingly the game started on time and after winning the toss, Sukh Dhillon elected to bat.

With overcast conditions, Stoke Green needed to be careful in the early part of the innings. Dan Simpson and Gully Khan provided another solid start but with the score on 26 Dan Simpson played a loose shot and chipped the ball to deep mid wicket scoring 16. Gully Khan and overseas player Shameera Weerasinghe carried on the good work and with some watchful batting they pushed the score along slowly. Both batsman put away the loose deliveries and ran between the wicket well. With score on 90 Gully Khan was stumped for 43 after 27 overs. This brought Chirag Desai to the crease but he departed soon after. Vishal Arjan and Weerasinghe pushed the score along and quickly took the score to 133 of 38 overs. With Arjan on 16 not out and Weerasinghe bringing up his first fifty of the season, play was then stopped because of rain.

With heavy rain coming down, early tea was taken but this did not allow Stoke Green to carry on their innings and the game was reduced to 71 overs with Thatcham needing 134 of 33 overs. Stoke Green opted to take the old ball with Zulfi Butt and Sajid Aziz opening the bowling, Aziz quickly reduced the home team to 10-2, with Thatcham trying to counter attack they offered a number of chances and Stoke Green fielded extremely well taking all their catches. With the score on 60-6, Thatcham needed something special from their remaining batsman but with Aziz and Butt bowling an extremely tight spell they knocked over the rest of their batsman getting Thatcham all out for 95.

Stoke Green have achieved maximum points in their first 3 games, they visit Sonning CC next week.
