Wokingham Oaks & Acorns v Stoke Green Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 22 Jun 2019 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 40 Runs
Match report
Following 2 rained off weekends the 4s took their unbeaten season to Wokingham 6s at Redham House (Barewood College). The pitch looked soggy and dodgy but with Captain Taher still being the champion tosser he put us into bat.
Senthil started with some big hits but it was short and sweet as he was caught on 10, young Ibrahim on his league debut hung around a while but then also fell for only 2. At this point a fine partnership started between Captain T-dog and Arun, they got some luck with some dropped catches including the worst dolly drop ever for Taher - when your luck is take advantage. They took us from 28-2 to 110 with Arun playing fine big hits and Taher holding up the other end and hitting the bad balls. Arun eventually went to a fine catch at long off having smashed 62 off 61 balls. Shortly after Taher followed him back to the clubhouse having scored 28 off 68 balls as his opposite captain started an excellent bowling spell. Late fill-in James then took the opportunity of batting with 10 overs to go to do some twunting with some support from Mark as they put on a quick 32 before Mark missed a straight one. The collapse then followed though as we went from 160-4 to 181 all out. James had hit 48 off 49 balls before he had got out and the opposition captain had figure of 5-24.
After a wait for a tea, it was suitably munched before we went out to defend our total. Taher had the plan of slow experience from one end and youthful swing/seam at the other. Latif held up one end and got the early break through before Mannan matched his tally with a short slower ball that got a big hitter clean bowled. Latif doubled his tally with a little edge to Taher, after that Taher had missed a stumping so easy he forgot to actually catch the ball first and there was much laughter. Wokingham were making slow progress and the captain again was the mainstay. Once Latif had bowled through it was Mark that took over from the experience slow end. But it was young Ibrahim (Joey) Javid that bowled well and was rewarded with 2 wickets. A fine bit of fielding from young debutant Awais finally got the opposition skipper run out on 32 and the result looked inevitable from there. Mark got a clean bowled and it was then James with a quick short burst who took 2 quick clean bowled wickets including his first ball that bewildered the batsman with the pace off 2 steps, this left us needing one last wicket to win. It was Uzair who finally got a lovely clean bowled - only to remember it was a free-hit. So we told him to do it again and he duly did as we bowled them out for 141 off 38.1 overs.
Top of the league going into our week off, still undefeated! a great team performance with 8 bowlers used and 6 of them taking wickets!
