Purley-on-Thames v Stoke Green Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 20 Jul 2013 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won Won by 63 runs
Match report
On a relatively cool morning, we went to Purley knowing it will be a tough day. Purley was one of the most in form teams in the league, having won 3 in a row.
Turning up expecting to see the usual road at Purley we are all very surprised with how dry and cracked the wicket looked. There was a lot of dead grass left on it and the outfield looked completely brown.
We were put in on a wicket that played at unpredictably as it looked. Our batmens struggled, put we made the most of the situation and played responsibly during the middle years. Credit to Josh, who batted very responsibly and with great skill on his debut.
Starting with the old ball didn’t get us the start we wanted, the wicket was still playing uneven and almost occasionally pooping dangerously. Highlighted by Hash getting one of his offies popping over the batmens and kepper off a length. Skipper took a risk by letting Saj bowl spin with the new ball. This paid off straight away as he got their opener in the first over of the new ball. Saj came into his own and ripped through their line up. The highlight being a quicker arm ball that got their skipper.
