Marlow Park v Stoke Green Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 12 Aug 2017 at 12:30
Match was Drawn
Match report
Just as the league extended promotion - or retention - to top 5 teams it was us in 6th vs Marlow Park in 5th. It was never going to match our last ball win in the reverse fixture and in fact our innings couldn't have been more different - however it still ended with 2 Holdships frustrating the Park.
As the outfield was still being mown we lost the toss to the guy on the mower - Mo - and made to bowl as the fair ground next door was playing Elvis tunes.
Their openers were on good form though, with some sloppy fielding not helping the openers hit 47 and 40 respectively until Maz finally took the big hitter. But it was Charlie and James that got wickets falling. Skippy had decided he was going to make the most of his £10 match fee and started bowling a 17 over spell. Bowling straight and full for a change he got a good catch from young Raheem and then clean bowled 3 of the middle order. Charlie got a couple with some good tight bowling and then Mark weighed in with a wicket too. However, we were giving away too many runs to poor fielding and dropped catches. Their number 6 got 35 not out and after 47 overs we were set 180.
After a good sandwich filled tea we took to batting hoping for better than last week - unfortunately that was not to happen. On a pitch that was very unreliable Taher fell to one that rolled, idris to one that rose and didn't come through, and Shak and Augi didn't last either. We were 25-4 after 10 overs. James decided though he hadn't done enough this game and started a fine long innings, at the other end Mark decided attack was his best defence and he and James put on 38 in the next 10 but Mark's luck could only last so long and he fell on 17 with the score on 63-5. Wickets started to fall once more and we were reduced to 98-8 with still 11 overs to go......But James was still there and Charlie - after winning the match last time - was determined to stay in and get a draw. James past his 50 off 92 balls but with 3 overs to go having batted 2 hours he fell guiding one to slip leaving Ben and Charlie to fight off 3 overs amongst some very aggressive appealing. But survive they did!!!!! 112-9 was the end score as we proved to be Marlow Parks bogey team, with James as chief bogey 4-47 and 51!
After only winning 1 of our last 9 games (we love Beaconsfield) it will be a big battle to finish top 5 with 3 games left, but lets start with a better week vs Gerrards Cross next week!
