Stoke Green Cricket Club 3rd XI v Marlow Park on Sat 10 Jun 2017 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 1 wicket
Match report
Sometimes our 3s just amaze me and this was an amazing game of cricket!
Undefeated Marlow Park came to sefton on a bright but windswept day with a wicket prepared that was more patchy than a dalmation.
They won the toss and decided to bat first.
We went out with a plan - that plan was to bowl as erratically as possible to lure them into a false sense of security and from one end the plan was going to a tee! Charlie was ignoring the plan and bowled well and got an early breakthrough. when Augi got a very woody lbw we were feeling good about ourselves and when James got the opener things were looking good. BUT their number 5 had seen our plan and was exploiting it. He smashed a 93 with ease until James got him. James also got their other half centurion - for the second time after he refused to walk following the biggest Nick since Hatton Garden.Luke bowled well and got one cleaned bowled and then a shock happened. They declared - we were set 258 off 52 overs, 5 an over required.
After a fine tea from Sarah out we went to bat putting our two fasters in first to allow our tea to go down. But Taher didn't feel like it today so politely feathered one to the keeper and was closely followed by Allen. after 12-2 our recovery started. Gully batted excellently and was on 50 when we were on 59. He and Augi put on 101 together before Gully went on 73. Skippy came out with a message for all - we are going at 5 an over so nothing silly - Augi promptly got out to something silly on 64, Imran followed after a quick 12 BUT still we stayed up with the run rate. James fell on 21 and Mark went soon after. we were 206-7, needing 53 off 11 overs. Steve came in and Chohan was swiftly Run Out with a fine direct hit. But then Charlie and Steve put on a fine partnership, both hitting big 6s to keep the runrate going. Into the last over we needed 4! Steve put the first ball down mid-ons throat. We now had Charlie and Luke to get us there. After turning down a single Charlie got a single 3 needed off 3, Luke the LEFT his first ball! Luckily the second was a single. We needed 1 to tie and 2 to win, the fielders came in. Charlie smashed the ball and the brothers ran a two to give us a WIN off the last ball!
A simply amazing finish and a perfectly timed run chase after a very generous declaration!
