Match report The Mathematicians were going crazy before this goal - it took all of Charlie's A with distinction in his GCSE math to know we needed a win today over 3rd place Chesham or a draw within 6 points of them and 5 points of Ruislips game vs Harefield to have a chance of promotion. However we were so hung up on the math we forgot to win! Chesham were better tossers and inserted themselves.
Their opener Skelton played a blinder not seen in 8b before, as part of two 100 partnerships he hit 100 which felt like far more, and their number 3 Zafar hit 89. We toiled away and kept going, Mark eventually got both big scorers ending 4 short of his own century on 4-96, with Aqib got the only other wicket with Chesham ending on 255-5.
In reply we battled hard and batted well to try keep up with the required run rate, Idris got another 30 before hitting a full toss straight into the air, Adeel also played well but came unstuck in the 40s again. James and Steve Mac then gave us some hope in a fine partnership with James getting 36 and Steve a strong hitting 60, and there was a sense it was brown pants time for some of the Chesham side - as one dashed to the changing rooms clenching - we were 200-6 with still 13 overs to get 55 but when James fell lbw the tail couldnt wag. Mark went first ball and Charlie, Simon and Aqib couldnt take the score past 213.
Promotion will not be ours this year, Chesham and Harefield are promoted.
