Hillingdon Manor 3 v Stoke Green Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 09 May 2015 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won By 107 Runs
Match report
Stoke Green 3rds started their league season with a visit to a WW2 bomb site.
As skippy made his way out to the middle for the toss, being careful not to tread on one of the many mines that lay hidden under the pitch, he could help but feel annoyed that the weatherman was wrong once again. Skippy lost the toss and the Green were put into bat.
The openers, Iffy and new guy Majid, took the long, long, long walk out to the pitch we were using, being careful not to get lost on the long, flowing grass that was the outfield.
The pitch soon revealed itself to be a load of garbo, with extreme bounce from some very slow bowlers on a half decent length. The going was tough and slow, the opening pair putting on a partnership of 21 in 7 overs. Majid was the first wicket to fall, mistiming a pull shot that went high to square leg. Simon was next in, and after taking half an hour to walk out into the middle through the forest undergrowth he took his guard. After a few cautious prods on a very poor wicket Simon was out and in came skippy. James did his usual thing and hit a few boundaries and then got out. With the sound of the parrots and other jungle wildlife in the background, Charlie finally macheteed his way onto the pitch we were using. Together Charlie and Iffy batted out a few more overs before Iffy finally fell.......into an undiscovered ravine hidden by the dense undergrowth, never to be seen again.
Next out was Augie, who after successfully navigating the ravine, minefields, killer vines and native wildlife got stuck into defending very very well. This went on for what felt like forever. Skippy was awoken from his coma towards the end of the innings when Charlie hit a six and Augi went berserk, smashing the ball to the same fielder and hitting him repeatedly, hard. At the end of our innings, we made our way back through the outfield, through the long grass, with only the sound of our team clapping to guide us back to the clubhouse.
After a very welcome tea, 'The Turds' took to the field, taking the old ball Wardy and Skippy got to work. The pitch had had time to dry up and was behaving itself a bit more, but was still and absolute minefield. It was so bad both Wardy and the Skip were actually spinning the ball. Unheard of.
Wardy ripped through the openers, one of whom actually found a lost tribe on his way back through the outfield. Skippy started to get in on the act and some very good fielding all round including a lot of good catches, Stoke Green were on top. After Wardy had destroyed the oppo with the assistance of the skip, Rinku and Augi came on for a short spell. Rinku took the last wicket and this time using a GPS system we managed to find our way back to the bar. Skip and Wardy where last seen skipping of hand in hand towards the sunset.
A good game lads, well done to Augi for his very useful 72 not out and of course to Wardy for is 5fer. Well done also to Majid on his 3rds debut, hope you enjoyed it mate and also to Ben for his debut. Good work all round guys lets keep it going.
