Stoke Green Cricket Club 1st XI v Eversley on Sat 06 Jun 2015 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won By 6 Wickets

Match report Following last week’s strong result, The Greens were high on confidence in putting on a similar performance. It proved to be a stellar team effort in moving the Div 2B Champions up to 4th in Div 1.

Skipper Sukh Dhillon lost the toss on a beautiful sunny Saturday, perfect for a day’s cricket ahead. For the first time in a few seasons, Sukh has been able to pick an unchanged side. Eversley proceed to celebrate winning the toss before deciding to bat first. One can only imagine he’s either not had a great record this season at the toss or he fears Stoke Green’s bowling attack in the 2nd innings. Lets go with the later…

Saud Ahmed opened up once again with Saj Aziz keeping it tight in the opening ten overs with the score on 20-1. Aziz opened up with 7 maidens on the bounce. Zulfi Butt replaced Ahmed with the 2nd wicket partnership proving to be a tough one to crack. With Eversley placed nicely at 168-2 after 38 overs, The Greens looked like they would be chasing a score of 250 plus. However, with the experience of Butt & Aziz combined with the much improved fielding performance in the second half of the innings, The Greens restricted the opposition to 231-8 from 52 overs. Aziz and Butt both claiming four wickets a piece.

At first glance, the score looked to be a formidable one, but with the confidence running through the side, Dhillon rounded his troops before The Green’s innings with a positive team talk.

Dan Simpson (7), making his second appearance of the season opened up with Hash Hussain (18) against the spinners with the old ball. They looked comfortable until Eversley’s skipper bought himself on to remove both of the openers in one over. Both wickets bought in Vice-Captain Vishal Arjan & Karanpreet Singh who looked to rebuild the innings. Both players knocked the ball around nicely putting on a half century partnership. Eversley took the new ball and managed to bag Arjan’s (31) wicket when he shouldered a ball which nipped back into his pads. In came Nadir Malik, who has been a breath of fresh air with his positive intent. Singh (68*) & Malik (51) looked at ease as they bought The Green’s closer to the target. With Malik bowled shortly after his half century, The Greens required 55 from last 10 overs with 6 wickets still in the hutch. Saud Ahmed came in and played a nicely timed quick fire 32* from 20 balls to take the team to within 13 runs from victory. The innings included 18 runs in one over. Man of the Match, Singh fittingly hit the winning boundary through the covers to remain 68 not out and celebrate a resounding victory.
