NPL Teddington 3 v Stoke Green Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 14 Jun 2014 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Lost By 70 Runs
Match report
Well, it was going to happen one day, we forgot how to play cricket!
We arrived to NPL Teddington in the rain, and made our way over to another 3rd team shack, again with smashed in windows. Its like they know we are from Slough and want us to feel at home.
After a short delay while the rain cleared and Skippy had a pint, we were under way. Stoke Green lost the toss and NPL opted to bat first. Augie and Sarfraz took the new ball and immediately caused problems for the batsmen. However the home team soon settled and started dispatching the regular short and wide balls for boundaries. With a complete lack of wildlife to comment on skippy got bored and started giving everybody nicknames, mostly Dave. Some honestly pretty average bowling was interspersed with flashes of brilliance, with Sarfraz's lethal in swingers and Augies pace, when the ball was delivered full and straight wickets fell. Unfortunately these deliveries we few and far between, annoyingly for skip. Fielding was another issue we had to contend with, with a lot of singles being run that shouldn't have been, due to laziness or bad Tekkers :). Harry and Sahib fielded well as a pair, and Skip took a couple of good catches, one driven at him while he was stood at short cover. After a few good overs from the pace men Sippy bought the spin, oops a bit of a mistake maybe. Trevor got spanked all over the park, as did skip. Although skippy was in a bad mood after 3 dropped catches went down in his first over through to the slips and keeper and another went down in his next over. The two slow bowlers bowled a few overs each to give Sarfraz and Augie a break before they came back on. When they did come back to bowl wickets fell again and NPL made it to 148 all out.
In general some average bowling and poor fielding led to the opposition getting 50 more runs than they should have.
After an awful tea consisting of some sandwiches, just sandwiches, and about 3 chips, nothing healthy like doughnuts, or chocolate rolls, biscuits, or even any pizza we went out to bat.
And I thought the fielding went wrong......
On a rapidly deteriorating wicket the openers went out, and quickly came back, probably still hungry and in search of some proper food. Charlie went in and played out a lot of dot balls but ultimately didn't bother the scorer much. Simon went in after and batted a good, sensible innings, as was required by the team. Skippy was in next and got a couple of runs before noticing a bit of long grass on the offside, that he decided to try and cut with the blade of his bat while sweeping a ball that was dead on off stump. Satisfied with his grass cutting skill, but ashamed at the shocking shot that got him bowled, skippy sulked.... I mean stalked off to have a cigar. the next few wickets fell easily until Hannan the colt came in. And with Simon and Hannan at the crease things started to look up. The both kept their wickets well and started to score more freely. After Simon decided football was a good sport, and was quickly given out by his son, we ran out of batsmen and the last wicket fell cheaply.
I think if we had batted first things may have been different, however we failed with the bat, including Skippy massively. We should have been able to get 149, even on that minefield we played on. In the field we were generally lazy , and the bowling mostly a bit village. Full and Straight next time guys, and they wouldn't have reached 50.
Well done Augie man of the match with six wickets. Special mention to Simon and Hannan without who we wouldn't have reached 50 runs.
Lets not let that happen again boys, including you Dave, and Dave, and you Dave, Dave at the back you to
