Maidenhead & Bray 2 v Stoke Green Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 17 May 2014 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 210 runs
Match report
After rain had decided the outcome of the previous week’s game Stoke Green were looking forward to a full days play in perfect playing conditions with the sun beaming down on the picturesque Maidenhead & Bray ground. Stoke Green won the toss and captain Farhan Sheikh had an easy decision of choosing to bat first.
Maidenhead & Bray removed vice-captain Nav Sahota early in the 7th over which brought Syed Kazmi to the crease who played some nice strokes to get to 12 before being caught leaving Stoke Green 32-2. Next in to bat was in-form batsman Farhan Sheikh who did not fail to disappoint getting off to a flying start with some powerful shots. Clive Bourne steadied the ship and made a solid 26 before being caught by a fantastic one handed catch from a Bray fielder, this left Stoke Green on 71-3 and brought the experienced campaigner Tim Gillham to the crease. Captain Sheikh steadied his innings according to the situation and both batsman nurdled the ball around picking up singles and putting the bad balls away. Gillham’s innings came to an end with the score on 147. Gulfraz Khan made his way to the crease and played himself in before opening up with his usual big shots. Farhan Sheikh eventually departed for a fantastic 90 and put Stoke Green in a solid position of 180-5. Irham Mughal was next in after hitting two quickfire 4’s and pushing the score over 200 was removed for 10. Harry Kibble was next in, the two K’s, Khan and Kibble produced fireworks in the last few overs and managed to get Stoke Green to a big score of 274. H.Kibble 41*(17) and G.Khan 52*
Stoke Green knew they were on top at the halfway mark of the game and were eager to get out and attack the Maidenhead & Bray batting line up with the dominant swing/seam attack the Green’s possess. It didn’t take long before the first wicket fell as G.Khan struck Bray’s opener plum on his pads with Bray 8-1. H.Kibble opened up with the new ball from the other end and got the edge of Bray’s second opener with Farhan Sheikh pulling off a spectacular one handed diving catch in the slips. This left Bray 8-2 and the Greens could sense the dominance and didn’t stop there as swing King Khan skittled over Bray’s bowlers with ease leaving Khan with 7 wickets to his name. Irham Mughal had a short bowling spell of 6 overs and picked up a wicket with some tactical bowling. To cap off a perfect all round display there was only one man that could take the final winning wicket and that was Gulfraz Khan, Maidenhead & Bray were all out for 64.
After an all round perfect display with the bat, ball and field the Green’s can go into next week’s game full of confidence.
