Match report Two changes were made this week with Greg Batting & Syed Kazmi coming in for Irham Mughal (unavailable) and Vice-captain Vishal Arjan (Vegas commitments).

With 3 wins on the bounce in the league, Stoke Green were full of confidence going into their clash away to Sonning. Skipper Sukh Dhillon lost the toss and The Greens were put into bat on a bowler friendly wicket.

Dan Simpson and Gully Khan continued their opening partnership providing a solid stand of 48. Khan fighting an ear infection battled his way to 13 before being bowled. This lead to a flurry of wickets falling with Shameera Weerasinghe (3), Chirag Desai (5), Dan Simpson (46) & Saud Ahmed (8) following Khan back into the pavilion. With some good bowling from Sonning, skipper Sukh Dhillon (9) came in to steady the ship with Hash Hussain (15) and Syed Kazmi (21) they helped The Greens bat the overs to 141 all out in some difficult batting conditions.

Sonning required 142 to win from 49 overs. Stoke Green decided to use the old ball with Saj Aziz (2-56) and Zulfi Butt opening up and immediately swinging the momentum towards the Greens by reducing Sonning to 28-4. The Greens knew they had to be patient throughout the innings especially with only 10 men on the field due to Dan Simpson’s knee injury, each player stepping up to the plate with their fielding. Once the 5th wicket partnership of 41 once broken by Butt, it was a matter of time before he ripped through their batting line up and finishing with figures of 8-44 from his 21 overs. Sonning were all out for 102 ensuring Stoke Green continued their 100% start to the season.

Special mention to Greg Batting & Syed Kazmi who showed how much it means to plays in the 1st XI coming in and playing their part in a winning team. Man-of-the-Match undoubtable goes to Zulfi Butt.

After 3 home games in the first 4, The Greens host Chiswick & Latimer next week in the hope to continue their impressive form.
