Match report After back to back promotions for 3 years running, Stoke Green made a return to Division 2 starting off at Aldershot. At the start of the day getting a game seemed near enough impossible but with some luck from the weather gods the game started on time. Aldershot won the toss and had no hesitation in putting the Greens in to bat in some seamer friendly conditions.

Aldershot's opening bowlers put the ball in the right areas and let the conditions do the work for them, they removed Gully Khan early but returning player Dan Simpson and new recruit Shameera 'Danne' Weerasinghe settled things down with some good running between the wicket and hitting the rare bad ball for four. With Aldershot still doing the basics well they got Simpson caught at 3rd slip leaving Stoke green 29-2 and with some good bowling, Weerasinghe, Arjan and Ahmed followed Simpson back leaving Stoke green 40-5 after 14 overs. Luckily the rain Intervened and Greens got to regroup and calm things down. Chirag Desai and Hash Hussain aimed to steady things after the rain break with a small counter attack until the next rain break at 18 overs where the Greens were 70-5. With Desai adding a calming influence and Hussain putting the pressure on the bowlers with some big hitting they added 110 runs in 16 overs until Hussain got out for 76 in the 31st over with Stoke Green on 160-6.

Trying to push along to 200 Chirag Desai got out for 61 and the rest of the order added some valuable runs but fell short at 197 all out after 44 overs. With the quick turnaround Stoke Green knew they were on top at the half way stage and with the strength being in the spin department they opted to use the old ball. With Sajid Aziz starting from one end and the other new recruit Zulfi Butt on the other other end, they started creating pressure which lead to wickets leaving Aldershot 13-4 after 8 overs. With sharp fielding close in the pressure was kept on by the Greens. Some big hitting from Da silva kept Aldershot’s hope up but wickets falling at the other end still kept the pressure on Aldershot. Da silva top scored for Aldershot with an aggressive 71 but all hope for Aldershot was gone when he got out with the score on 110 for 8. Aldershot were all out for 125 with Zulfi Butt giving a great first performance getting 5-71 of 17 overs, Sajid Aziz getting 3 wickets and Hash Hussain capping a great all round performance with 2 wickets.

A great team performance from Stoke Green where they showed they can cope in division 2. Next week they entertain bagshot at home and hope to carry on the good performances.
