Eversley 2 v Stoke Green Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 26 May 2012 at 13.00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Stoke Green beat Eversley 2 by 5 wickets to take them to the top of the table.

On a hot, sunny day, Sukh Dhillon lost the toss as Stoke Green were asked to bowl first. Continuing on from his marathon spells, Richard Parker took consistant wickets throughout Eversley's innings to restrict them to 98-8. However, the 9th and 10th wicket partnership involved their batsmen in chancing their arms, pushing the total upto 164. Richard Parker finished with figures of 5-46 (2nd 5-fer in 2 weeks) while all the other bowlers chipped in with a wicket a-piece, Saud Ahmed taking 2.

In reply, it was another scratchy start as The Greens were reduced to 49-3 as Clive Bourne (11), Farhan Sheikh (0) and Tim Gillham (8) failed to make much of an impact. As Nadeem Chowdhry was also out injured, it looked like Stoke Green were heading for another traditional collapse facing a small total, on that wicket. However, Saud Ahmed and Vish Arjan saved the innings with a classy partnership of 64. There were lovely straight drives, pull shots and quick singles on display as these two young guns went at nearly 7 an over. However, they both fell making well-made 30s before Raja Ifraz (20*) and vice-captain Dahron Pitt (23*) finished the run chase within 26 overs.

This gave Stoke Green 20 points meaning they pushed ahead of first-placed Kew. They now face Kew next Saturday, a game if won, can increase that lead.

Skipper Sukh Dhillon after the game, “Before the season started we always knew Eversley away was going to be a tough game. After being put into the field on a very hot and humid day, I knew we were going to have to fight hard and show great powers of concentration. Richard bowled his heart out, bowling 23 overs in a row in that heat was almost heroic, his 5 wickets were the least he deserved.  Their tail-enders chanced there luck and got away with a lot on a batting friendly wicket. Nav had a great day behind the stumps and not only took 3 catches but saved a lot of runs on a hard wicket. It was disappointed to see them get that score that they did as I think we gave away 20/30 runs too many, however I would of taken that at the start of the day.

We were confident of chasing that score down on that wicket, but we were in a little trouble at 40 odd for 3. However, Vish and Saud batted sensible and with great ability to make sure of the game. Overall another good win and hopefully we will carry this on next week in our big game against Kew.”
