Match report Right, so the 'unknown' Bucks Cup was finally being played by The Greens' and by generous byes they were already in the semi-final where they would be up against Winchmore Hill - the team that knocked them out in the 2nd round of the Village Cup. Anyways, back to business and skipper Farhan Sheikh lost the toss and was asked to bat first on a greasy wicket with a damp, slow outfield - luckily the weather was just fine, unlike yesterday.
SGCC got off to a flying start, as usual, as Clive Bourne (23) and Farhan Sheikh (29) smashed 33 in the first 3 overs. Saud Ahmed then top scored with 38, strangely, with an unconvincing innings. Wickets kept falling but Raja Ifraz and Dahron Pitt provided knocks of 21 and 24, respectively, where they pushed the score upto 198 in 38 overs, not using the full 45. There was also a massive 6 by Mazhar Hussain, without gloves!
At tea, skipper Farhan Sheikh was confident that The Green's bowling attack would be able to defend 198 comfortably and thats exactly what happened. Saud Ahmed and Dahron Pitt provided the away team with testing, tight spells as they bowled 5 maidens between them in 14 overs. Pitt and Mazhar Hussain picked up 2 a-piece as Raja Ifraz then took 2 in 2. Winchmore were reduced to 44-6 off 20 overs, achieving no great success in their chase. Ifraz then took 3 more wickets to clean up the tail while chairman Trevor Clegg took the final wicket to bowl Winchmore out for a dismal 65.
Stoke Green are now through to the finals which will be played at Burnham on 10th Sept.
